WM Crossroads Landfill in Norridgewock, ME, Supports Veterans Program

The Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine recently held a “Bird Dog Basics’” event for military veterans and their families, with assistance from the Sebasticook Chapter of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association. The morning agenda included a safety lecture, an introduction to the art of skeet shooting, and time to meet the hunting dogs. Afterwards, participants went into the field to hunt pheasants with the assistance of their new four-legged friends. The Waste Management Crossroads Landfill was proud to support this great event with a donation of pheasants.

About Waste Management Crossroads Landfill — Waste Management has owned and operated the Crossroads Landfill since 1990, serving the waste disposal needs of Maine residents and businesses. The Crossroads Landfill is an 817-acre site located in Norridgewock, Maine, with 500 acres of land managed for wildlife habitat, including wetland, mixed forest, and grassland habitats. And in 2017, Crossroads received their recertification of Wildlife Habitat Council.

The Crossroads Landfill partners with several groups to bring conservation education to the community. Younger students enrolled in Boy Scout and Girl Scout programs gain knowledge of the flora and fauna on-site as they explore the wetland and grassland habitats around the landfill.

The education team is committed to providing opportunities for the community as well. Annual open house events allow community members to tour the landfill and see the habitat projects around the site, especially the wetland.
