Giving Back At Mill City Grows in Lowell, MA

As part of WM’s commitment to social responsibility, our Area Recycling leadership team organized a volunteer event at Mill City Grows – a local vegetable farm in Lowell, MA to weed, prepare beds, and plant scallions, lettuce, and bok choy plants. This initiative, as part of the team’s annual in-person leadership summit, was to promote environmental sustainability, community engagement, and civic consciousness. 12 volunteers participated in the event, collectively working towards a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment.

Bernard Fosu, area recycling director stated, “We are grateful to Dai, Ted, and the leadership of Mill City Grows for hosting us at their beautiful farm in Lowell. It was a rewarding experience to contribute to environmental sustainability and help give back to our local communities. Together, our 12 area recycling leaders who volunteered on the farm, demonstrated our WM values by contributing a combined 24 hours of farm work as part of our commitment to sustainability and community engagement. A big thank you to all the volunteers for making this initiative a success, and a special thanks to Chris Lucarelle, our AVP, for joining us on the farm – what an inspiration!”

Ted Hamm with Mill City Grows said, “I wanted to thank you – Bernard – again for coming today and for all of the hard work you and your team put in. You brought a great team and your efforts have made a significant impact on our space and mission, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Your willingness to give your time and energy to help us is truly commendable.”
