The Blind Will Dedication at Turnkey Landfill
WM of New Hampshire’s Turnkey Landfill recently completed the installation of a plaque commemorating a Native American who lived and died near Company property in Rochester NH.
In early 2024, Turnkey staff was approached by descendants of the Pennacook people about installing a plaque to honor Willanowit (also known as “Blind Will”) who was a friend of local settlers and, interestingly, was murdered by another group of Native Americans at a location that is very likely now owned by WM. The plaque was provided to WM, who worked with one of our local contractors, Sargent Corp., to find an appropriate boulder, move to the Gonic Trails (owned by WM) parking lot and mounted for trail walkers to see and appreciate this local history. The plaque was formally unveiled in March 2025.
