Local Communities Receive WM Think Green Grants

Recently, Waste Management awarded $10,000 in Think Green Grants to provide support for improvement projects in two local communities. Here’s how those communities put the grants to good use.

Beautification Project — Lancaster, NY The Village of Lancaster — located just outside Buffalo — requested funding to assist with a beautification project in the community’s business district. WM’s Think Green Grant was used to purchase new waste and recycling receptacles, to improve the recovery of recyclables, and to reduce litter in the area. The Waste Management Think Green Grant is part of our commitment to encourage the development and sustainability of environmental solutions that improve a community’s environment. The merit-based grant program supports projects that are implemented to address local community needs.

Washington Street Pocket Park — Norwood, MA This project transformed an unusable area in downtown Norwood — adjacent to its historic town hall and across from two churches — to a “Pocket Park.” The park was landscaped with trees for shade and numerous drought-tolerant shrubs surrounding new park benches. WM’s Think Green Grant was used to purchase materials for the project.
